Utilizing our second generation Deluxe Gong Target System for quick assembly and our 2X4 or Armored versions. Affordable and Modular Plate Rack Design

The Easy Plate Rack is designed to be adaptable to different shooters and setups. Often referred to as a Poor Man’s Plate Rack or Speed Plate Rack, this system offers a cost-effective way to get into steel target training without sacrificing performance.

AR500 VS AR550 Gongs

Our Easy Plate Rack comes in options of AR500 and AR550 Gongs. To tell the difference you will see the gongs painted Mineral Bronze for AR500, and White for AR550. The AR550 steel targets will have notches on the gong signifying that the gongs are made out of AR550.

  • Pistols: 10 Yards
  • Magnum Pistols: 25 Yards (Pistol calibers more similar to rifles must follow rifle ratings)
  • Standard Rifles: 100 Yards
  • Magnum Rifles: 200+ Yards
AR550 Gong Caliber Ratings:
  • Pistols: 10 Yards
  • Magnum Pistols: 25 Yards (Pistol calibers more similar to rifles must follow rifle ratings)
  • LIGHT Rifles: 50 Yards (.223, 5.45X39, 7.62X39, 300 blackout and similar, SO LONG AS MUZZLE VELOCITY IS 3,000 FPS OR LESS!)
  • Standard Short Action Rifles: 100 Yards
  • Magnum Rifles: 200+ Yards

Note: Distance ratings are based on your rifle firing a projectile at 3,000 FPS or LESS at the muzzle. Additionally, for every 100 FPS over 3,000 FPS muzzle velocity, YOU MUST add 25 yards MINIMUM.

The Easy Plate Rack can be safely engaged with pistols and rifles when proper distance and velocity guidelines are followed.

For AR500 Gongs:

  • Pistols: 10 yards minimum
  • Magnum Pistols: 25 yards minimum
  • Standard Rifles: 100 yards minimum
  • Magnum Rifles: 200+ yards minimum

For AR550 Gongs:

  • Pistols: 10 yards minimum
  • Magnum Pistols: 25 yards minimum
  • Light Rifles (5.56/.223, 7.62x39, 5.45x39, 300 Blackout, and similar): 50 yards minimum IF AMMO IS 3,000 FPS OR LESS
  • Standard Short Action Rifles (.308, 6.5 Creedmoor, etc.): 100 yards minimum
  • Magnum Rifles: 200+ yards minimum

NEVER shoot the Easy Plate Rack with ammunition exceeding 3,000 FPS muzzle velocity unless substantial additional distance is added to reduce impact velocity. For every 100 FPS over 3,000 FPS, shooters should add a MINIMUM of 25 additional yards.

AR500 is an excellent option for general-purpose range use and recreational shooting. AR550 is a harder steel designed for higher volume shooting and extended target life, especially when used with lighter rifle calibers at closer distances.

The Easy Plate Rack identifies steel types by color:

  • AR500 Gongs are painted Mineral Bronze
  • AR550 Gongs are painted White and include identification notches

If you plan to shoot frequently with rifles or higher round counts, AR550 is strongly recommended.

No. The 2x4 posts are NOT included with the Easy Plate Rack. Customers using the 2x4 version will need to supply their own lumber locally, or be purchased separately. You can order 2X4 boards HERE.

The armored post version provides additional steel protection for the support structure and is intended for shooters who want maximum durability and long-term performance. It is ideal for higher volume ranges, training facilities, and shooters who regularly use rifles. The use of the armored posts allow for a system that does not have to be constantly maintained which saves time and money.

Yes. The system was designed for quick setup, teardown, transport, and storage. It can easily be moved and reconfigured depending on your range setup and training needs.

Yes. The Easy Plate Rack was designed as a modular target system. Components such as gongs, self-healing rubber straps, armored post, and side brackets can be replaced or upgraded over time depending on your shooting needs.

Shooters should NEVER use:

  • Steel core ammunition
  • Armor piercing ammunition
  • Incendiary rounds
  • Ammunition exceeding safe velocity limits at improper distances

Using improper ammunition or shooting inside recommended minimum distances can damage the system and create unsafe shooting conditions.

Hollow Points are allowed to be used on the Easy Plate Rack, but you will see increase wear on the self-healing rubber straps.
