Create more stability from your portable steel target system. 

TA Targets bases and systems are designed to be stable as stand-alone systems. But we recognize that not all terrain is perfectly flat and perfectly stable. In those situations, your AR500 or AR550 steel target system might need a little extra help. That is why our target stakes exist. This simple, inexpensive product gives you options when you find that you want some more stability. 

We laser cut these stakes from 3/16" Mild steel. They ship uncoated to keep the costs as low as possible. All corners are radiuses, keeping sharp edges out of the picture. *Note: The photo shows our older / original version, but the ones YOU will receive will have ALL corners rounded off as of 2/1/2026. The top is a Tee shape, allowing easy insertion with a boot or mallet. The thickness of the stake is 3/8", allowing easy insertion through ANY of our bases, including our:

Portable Steel Target System Stakes

Our target systems are built like tanks. They are designed to be stable right out of the box. However, not all terrain is perfectly flat, and sometimes you might just need a little more stability from your system. Enter: Our VERY inexpensive AR500 / AR550 steel target system stakes. 

Why should you consider purchasing some stakes?

  • If your range is not perfectly flat, you might find that you want some extra stability. 
  • The stakes are easy to install in most soil types (unless your soil is extremely rocky)
  • They are inexpensive insurance to ensure that your system stays put
  • The stakes are also valuable in locations with extreme wind gusts. 
  • Stakes CAN help dissuade others from stealing your targets off your range. Not a guarantee, but it helps. 
  • This is a great option for folks who "set it and forget it". If your range is setup in a way you like, stake everything down to avoid others moving the targets around. 

Our steel target stakes are manufactured from 3/16" Mild steel. They are NOT armored, so bullet impacts will cause deformation and damage. 

A solution that works for almost all TA Targets Steel Targets and Systems.

Our target stakes will work with any of our systems that have a traditional base. If you are shopping for a system with our Genesis Base, Breakdown Base, Cardboard Base, 20" Gen 3 base, 26" single base, 26" double base, or our new MOD 1 Double Base, the stakes will work perfectly. The 3/8" Thick stake is heavier duty than tent stakes, but thin enough to fit through the square or round holes on our target bases. Inexpensive, Fast, and Secure.   • Laser Cut from American Mild Steel (HRPO material)
  • 3/16" Material
  • Corners are rounded to avoid sharp edges
  • Pointed end with "Tee" top allows easy insertion
  • Approximately 10" long creating a stake that drives in far enough to create solid stability. 
  • Unfinished: To keep costs as low as possible, these stakes ship bare. You MAY see some surface rust on them, but that will not affect the performance of the stakes. 
  • Works with all our target systems that utilize a portable base. These are NOT required for our Grounder 500 and Grounder 550 systems due to the design of the Grounder Targets. 
  • install with foot pressure (using a reinforced boot or shoe to avoid injury), or use a rubber mallet for installation. 
  • When installing, BE SURE to impact the stake square and straight, or it could bend while inserting. 


Frequently Asked Questions:

For flat ranges, stakes are not a requirement. If your range has sloping terrain, having stakes is an inexpensive way to ensure your target system stays put. 

The stakes will work with the following bases: 

  • Genesis Base (ARK Base)
  • Breakdown Base
  • Cardboard Base
  • Gen 3 20" Round base
  • 26" Single Base
  • 26" Double Base
  • MOD 1 Double Base

The stakes will work with the following systems:

  • All A-DAP Systems that utilize a portable base (not required for T-Post Systems)
  • ALL Genesis Systems that utilize a portable base (not required for T-Post Systems)
  • Rifle Dueling Tree
  • Falling Tree (Double AND Single)
  • VTAR Poppers
  • Phoenix Plate Rack

Every system we create is stable on a flat range. However, systems like the Grounder 500 and Grounder 550 targets, as well as our T-Post systems will NOT need stakes, even on sloping terrain. Our Deluxe and Conduit gong hangers also do not need stakes due to their design. 

If you own a range where you discourage the relocation of your systems, simple stakes keep others from moving the targets. 

You should ensure that you are driving them into the ground properly, without hitting or driving them from an angle. If you hammer them at an angle, they will bend. Often, you can still drive the stake in, but you might want a few sets in case you damage any of your stakes during installation. 

Most soils will allow the driving of stakes with ease. If your soil has extremely rocky terrain, the stakes may not be able to be driven into the ground. Sand, topsoil, clay soils, and other types of dirt usually work great. In sandy conditions, consider adding more stakes simply due to how loose the soil is in these circumstances. More stakes = more stability.
